Free products are really free?

Ron Schenone at Lockergnome comments on Microsoft decision to move into free security software arena by releasing Morro a basic free security package (full story at http://www.lockergnome.com/blade/2009/06/19/microsoft-to-mcafee-and-symantec-we-will-bury-you

This is my comment:

“This moving toward everything free reminds me the early times when everybody felt the impulse to “donate” free internet access to the community.
I don’t question the availability of free-everything software, but should be really free (i.e. no embedded costs or abuse of dominant position)
Otherwise we are moving to “dumping” area (i.e. selling with no profit in order to kill other players).”
